What a Period Is

A period is when a little blood comes out of my body from a small opening between my legs. It usually comes out slowly over several days.

The Timing Is Unknown

I do not know exactly when my first period will come. It can start at different times for different girls.

Getting Ready with Mom

To get ready, I can keep a pad in my bag or backpack. Mom can help me choose pads and learn how to use them.

If I See Blood

If I see blood in my underwear, it might be my first period. I can go to a private place like a bathroom and put a pad in my underwear.

I Can Tell Mom

I can tell Mom or another trusted adult. Mom can help me and answer my questions.

Private Questions at Home

Periods are private, and I can ask questions at home. Getting ready helps me know what to do.
